Read or Die the TV (anime)
Bad anime the tv
// Synopsis: Nenene Sumiregama is a writting prodigy who hasn’t written anything since her friend Yomiko “The Paper” Readmon vanished. Three paper masters are hired to protect Nenene when she is attacked at a book signing. But to their horror they learn of their shocking pasts and are tangled in a web of a conspiracy to create a new world order.
// Review: When I stumbled into the middle of this series I was intrigued. I had watched the R.O.D. OVA and I thought the premise was absurd, but somehow it worked. This didn’t. There are so many things to hate about this anime. R.O.D. the TV? The TV what? TV antenna? TV remote? The premise that you can control the world by controlling all of the books is just stupid. It completely ignores other media like the internet and <cough> the TV; all which exist in its universe. The first 12 episodes are a complete waste of time. The plot only starts to move half way through once Yomiko resurfaces.
/ What irritated me the most were the characters. The only strong ones were the villians. But the villians used to be the good guys and friends of Yomiko in the OVA. Brits already have a very snobbish stereotype and it was painful to watch how ex-good guys are so smug and condescending. There was really no one to like. All of them are weak and allow themselves to be easily manipulated and have no strength of will or resolve.
/ The little girl Anita was in desperate need of several back hands. She was a spoiled brat, completely selfish, lashes out at others over frustration with her own weakensses, wrongly and hurtfully blames her friends, impulsive, short-tempered; you get the idea. I hated her. She took this anime down an entire level all by herself.
/ America is made to look like an incompetent lapdog with power but no brains. The president even collapses and wets himself several times. Worth noting that the World’s hatred of America is even seeping into anime.
/ The action scenes are decent but get repetitive. Half of the voice acting for the dubs is decent while the other half is embarrassingly horrible.
// Wrap up: The execution of this title was decent. Just watching 1-2 episodes it looks pretty solid. This is not terrible like MD Geist terrible. Personally I just feel to know it is to hate it.
