The Wheel of Time Book 8 - Path of Daggers
It's gone dull
// Synopsis: Rand roots out a Seanchan
army, Elayne and Nynaeve travel back to Camelyn, and Perrin sets off
on a quest to rein in the Prophet.
// Review: Starting from book 6
it's been page after page of tedium. This volume represents to low point
of the series only to be outdone by book 10. It is filled with peripheral
plots and intrigues that only feed into other peripheral plots and intrigues.
The Kin and Atha'an Miere are some of the worse character groups and
for hundreds of pages they are lumped with the conceoted Elayne, Nynaeve,
and slew of other haughty Aes Sedai as they all alternate brow beating
each other.
/ Perrin can't decide if he wants to be emasculated or have a backbone
a long arc begins that doesn't even wrap up in book 10, to bring the
Prophet to heel. As if Faile wasn't annoying enough, she gets a group
of women loyal to her that condescends to him. MAt, who hs quickly become
one of the most interesting characters is really an after thought and
gets little attention. Rand's main strategem is to root out Seachan
hiding in mountains stave off an impending invasion. His Asha'man clean
house but later to find it does little good. In the end, some of Rand's
own Asha'man are sent to kill him. Instead of a monster battle he just
flees with Min. Jordan tries to make up by ending with the cliffhanger
of Faile getting kidnapped by Shaido Aiel, but no one likes her anyhow
and we want her to take a spear in the ribs.
// Wrap up: This book is weak. The
only major plot movements involve peripheral characters. Most of this
is just plodding and boring.
