I Robot
U formulaic
// The skinny: On the eve of the
largest worldwide robot distribution, a murder is committed bringing
doubt that robots may not be as harmless as believed.
// Review: In the future robots
are as necessary as cell phones and as harmless as Yao Ming in the low
post. Except one man, Will Smith suspects otherwise especially following
the murder of a friend with a robot as the prime suspect. Somewhere
in the mix there is a chosen one/prophecy about some type of savior,
big corporate conspiracy, no one believes what's obvious except for
the hero, robots become sentient, yadda yadda. There was only one reason
why I bothered watching this popcorn movie: Bridgett Moyahan. I Robot,
She Hot. But sadly she plays a very cookie cutter cold fish logic whore.
Her lack of personality and incessant psycho-babble made for one very
uncompelling love interest. There was absolutely zero chemistry between
her and Will Smith. This movie was very predictable and cliched topped
off with Smith's gun of infinite ammo.
/ The premise was at one point original when Isaac Asimov wrote the
short story years ago. But the idea of robots becoming sentient and
mankind becoming overly dependent on them was already done in the Matrix;
and to much cooler effect. Will Smith's same cocky charismatic character
isn't enough to make any of this film remotely interesting. For a summer
blockbuster with tons of CGI, action, one liners, and an A list lead,
I found it pretty boring.
// Wrap up: A CGI fest with the
trite "when robots attack" storyline. Mindless quasi-entertainment.
