Rock Band // Xbox 360
I wanna rock and roll all night
// The skinny: Create
a band, play with friends and go on tour in this addictive music based
rhythm game.
// Review: When Guitar
Hero first came along, it was shocking that shovelware like the
Virtual Boy or Power Glove came out decades before a guitar peripheral.
Rock Band is just the next logical evolution of GH with the addition
of a mic and drum kit, more master tracks, and it proves just as fun.
/ The key word in describing Rock Band is its accessibility (read: easier).
Compared to GH, the note combos aren't as arthritis inducing and it's
easy for anyone with zero music inclinations to pick up and play. But
to work the mic you actually do have to be able to carry a tune.
/ You can play by yourself or with friends at the same place or online.
Once you make a band you can go on tour and unlock venues all over the
world. For each successful gig you build up a fan base and earnings
which you can use to purchase stuff for the surprisingly deep character
customization.
/ One of the best aspects to Rock Band are the songs. Unlike previous
iterations of GH, Rock Band has almost no covers and the song selection
is prett solid. You can always augment your music library for $2 micro-transactions
online. I was disappointed there was no battle of the bands feature.
You can only compete one on one against others. Guess we'll just have
to wait for Guitar Hero 4.
// Wrap up: It you liked GH, then
with Rock Band's strong music line up, guitar compatibility, and instrument
versatility, it's a no brainer purchase.
